Foreword
On a balmy September day in Cambridge, Massachusetts, I welcomed eighteen freshman students to my class, Culture Shock! Writing and Publishing on the Web. All were freshmen in the MIT Class of 2015. All were bright, gifted writers, and all had signed on to work on the design, production, and editorial and copyediting boards for Culture Shock!, our online magazine that was to be created by the class. And here it is! Here you will read about Being Black in America, about the Reading Revolution created by online texts, about Superheroes films, about Hip-Hop and its culture, about the politics of language use. We hope you’ll enjoy the work of these student writers. And if you do, let us know!
